Mayor Cr Philip Curr is pleased to announce that planning and design work is about to kick off for a new bore and associated headworks at Kynuna Township, thanks to a package of flood recovery grants announced this week. This new bore will replace the existing bore which is nearing the end of its useful life.
Kynuna Funding of a New Bore Media Release 23 June 2021
Two projects in McKinlay Shire Council received the go ahead as part of the Recovery and Resilience Grants which are funded by the Australian Government and delivered through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
These are the projects funded in our Shire:
- Kynuna Township Water Supply - Drilling of new bore and associated headworks at Kynuna Township - $450,000.
- AC Mains Julia Creek - Replacement of approx. 250m of old AC water mains with 150mm PVC mains - $100,000.
The grants were open to the 14 Local Government Areas most affected by the 2019 North Queensland flood event, for locally-led projects that increase resilience to natural disasters. Council chose to apply for funding for a new bore at Kynuna as the number one priority and Council is delighted that the project has been funded. Once the planning and design work is completed Council will go out to public tender to select a contractor.
The completed project will provide a secure water supply for the Kynuna residents with the existing bore being used as a backup if required.
Dated 23rd June 2021.
