McKinlay Shire Council - 15 June 2020 Media Release
Residents in the McKinlay Shire will now be able present to a new Fever Clinic at Julia Creek MPHS Hospital thanks to a donation from South32 Cannington.
COVID-19 Fever Clinics have been established across Queensland to assess patients who present with flu like symptoms separate from main hospitals and emergency departments to reduce the potential spread of the virus.
“Local resources are critical for an effective response in this pandemic” Mayor Philip Curr, Chair of the McKinlay Shire LDMG said. “Our local MPHS had sought assistance from the LDMG as the current gazebo was inadequate. We worked with South 32 who quickly responded to the request”.
South32 Cannington Vice President Operations Rob Jackson said South32 was committed to working with its host communities in response to COVID-19.
“Heading into winter, our donation helps with the cost of a temporary demountable to replace the gazebo which housed the clinic during the warmer months,” Mr Jackson said.
“As we all do what we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will continue to work closely with the McKinlay Shire Council to determine how best to support our communities through this pandemic.”
